SEO Is Changing & So Is This Newsletter!
Moving forward in a strange SEO land.
A Personal Note
I have been having a mini-crisis lately. 😨
I am sure some of you feel the same. What is the future of SEO - how do I get more traffic - will my business thrive or die. A recent LinkedIn post I made let me know I was not alone in how I felt.
For those of us that have been around for a LONG time, we have dealt with all the crap Google has thrown our way. Most of us have persevered through it all - me included.
But the truth is - this time it is different. Even if others say it is not.
The increase in competition and challenges in gaining traction in the SERPs.
The lack of clicks due to Google ingesting more of those clicks for their own assets.
The growth of AI and answer engines that will minimize traffic to our websites.
It is all a LOT to take, even more so when you have clients to answer to.
Which is why I am leaving client SEO behind.
Do I think SEO is dead? No.
But it is very different - and not for me it is not “fun” anymore. Even how we optimize content has changed. While the core methods still work at some level, the addition of semantics, embeddings and other high-level techniques are more helpful than ever.
I am going to back into WordPress web development - with a focus on nonprofit organizations. That is what truly made my heart happy and gave me a sense of “accomplishment”. I am available for other projects as well - so if you need a redesign or new website, let me know!
I will still be invested in SEO since I have my own sites, but it will not be my focus anymore.
I will be shutting down the newsletter, this is the last one. 🥲
